I found an article on the Wall Street Journal addressing socioeconomic inequality, the digital divide and globalization. There was talk regarding globalization causing an income gap and thus the socioeconomic divide, but this post argues that technology and the technological advances that have occurred are perpetuating income stratification more so than globalization. Education is pointed to as the key to resolving the technology divide, but once again this ties into the downward spiral that is low-income education systems. Public education requires funding, which generally comes from the community, which lacks resources. Without improvement and investment, there will be little progress. While ideally education would help low-income families keep pace with the rest of society technologically, just preaching the need for education will, in effect, help no one.
