New Inequality Frontier: Broadband Internet Access

This article talks about the disparities in access to broadband internet to not only follow similar patterns (income, race, education, age) as compared to inequalities in access to computers and the internet in general, but also to include those living in rural areas, and females. The author talks about both the individual benefits of being well-skilled with computers, as well as having better and more reliable access to the large amount of information on the internet, but also the benefits for the country. Broadband internet has been able to cut billions of dollars in costs from business owners, and if it can become more widespread, it would be able to cut the spending of our nation as well as create more jobs.

  1. Hey Lauren. The article that I found for last week was similar to what you have found. If you were to further research this topic, I think it might be helpful to look into any government policies or corporation sponsorships that are trying to increase the availability of broadband connections. I'm pretty certain that companies such as AT&T are now providing a lot of funding to allow for more broadband coverage. Additionally, President Obama has given some acknowledgement to the digital divide, specifically the need for faster and more effecient internet connections nationwide. Hope this helps.
